  2. Type the right share percent and price.
  3. Add your shares to see how many you can apply for.

What right shares are

A right issue lets owners buy new shares, usually at Rs 100 each. It is how a company raises money from the people who already own it. You can choose to apply or not.

FormulaAdjusted price = (Price + Right % x Right price) / (1 + Right %)

Why the price changes

New shares come in at Rs 100, below the market price. So the average value of each share falls a little after book close. If you do not apply, you can sell your right later or let it lapse.

Questions

How is the price adjusted after right shares?

Add the market price to the right percent times the right price, then divide by 1 plus the right percent. A Rs 400 stock with a 50% right at Rs 100 becomes Rs 300.

What does a 10:5 right share mean?

For every 10 shares you own, you can apply for 5 new shares. That is 50%.

Do I have to apply for right shares?

No. It is your choice. If you do not apply by the deadline, your right lapses.
